Top left: Julie Ertz battles for possession during the first half of today's Women's World Cup match between the United States and Sweden. The contest in Melbourne, Australia ended in heartbreak for Team USA; after 120 minutes of goalless action, the USA was eliminated in a seven-round penalty shootout. The deciding goal in the shootout was awarded after a review using goal-line technology found that while goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher appeared to make a save, the ball wound up just barely crossed the goal line, giving Sweden the win. Top right: Jake Bauers watches as his solo home run to right field in the bottom of the 5th inning gives the New York Yankees the lead. Bauers' go-ahead shot, following by a homer by Gleyber Torres in the bottom of the 8th -- wound up being the difference, as the Yankees defeated the Houston Astros 3-1. The two sparked a benches-clearing brawl after Ramirez slid safely into second base for an RBI double. Bottom right: Former Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Joe Thomas delivers his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speech in Canton, Ohio on Saturday. Thomas was one of the headliners of the Class of 2023, which contains nine former NFL players and coaches. During Thomas' speech, he took time to acknowledge his offensive line coaches who helped him during his 11-year career, including Dunkirk native and Chautauqua Sports Hall of Famer Bob Palcic.
