Marilyn A. Barresi

Marilyn A. Barresi, 94, of Fredonia passed away, surrounded by her family on Monday, April 1, 2024 at the Golden Heights Personal Care Home in Irwin, PA, with her loving family by her side.

Marilyn was born on April 7, 1929 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late John A. and Ellen (Krantz) Anderson. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947 and was the recipient of the Jenkins Memorial Scholarship. She then earned her B.S. degree from SUNY Teachers College at Fredonia in 1951. While there, she was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society in education. She later (1969) earned her Master's in education at SUNY Fredonia. She married her college friend, Thomas L. Barresi in 1952. She then worked and taught school at Lindbergh Elementary in Kenmore, Friendship Central School, Campus School in Fredonia, and she was a Supervisor of student teachers in the Education Department at SUNY Fredonia for 33 years. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma-Beta Beta Chapter and International Honorary Women's Teacher's Society, where she served as President from 1984-1986.

Marilyn was a former member of Tri-County Country Club and its Women's Association and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Fredonia, where she was a former Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, Christmas Family Fellowship organizer and most recently served as Communion Steward and member of the Friendship Circle.

Marilyn enjoyed reading, traveling, playing bridge, and visiting and having lunch with friends. She particularly looked forward to spending time with her family and sharing her Swedish traditions with them.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Barresi in 2009; three children, Beth (Richard) Lehouillier of Dorchester, Ontario, Canada, T.J. (Pennee) Barresi of Lansing, NY and Amy (Don) Winchell of Trafford, PA; grandchildren, Jason (Corri) Lehouillier, Steven (Kerri) Lehouillier, Mallory (Pawel) Kucharski, Treyson (Cait) Barresi, Teagen (Maclaine Lehan) Barresi, Hannah (George) Reynolds, Emma (Brett Carney) Winchell and Sarah Winchell; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Addison, Kyler, Lucas, Aidan, Anya, Mila, Eva, Nico and baby Reynolds due in August.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Fredonia First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Marilyn's name to Fredonia First United Methodist Church, 25 Church Street, Fredonia, NY 14063; or the Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day Street, Fredonia, NY 14063.

Arrangements are being handled by the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home in Trafford, PA.
