Martha McKinney, 77, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at her home, with her family by her side. She was born in Bad Worishofen, Germany, daughter of Walter and Anizia Kopystianski. With her family, Martha immigrated to the United States and spent her youth in Dunkirk.
Martha settled in Louisville, KY, where she raised her family with her devoted husband, Michael McKinney. She worked in the legal field as a paralegal but always found a creative outlet in fashion and jewelry. Most will remember Martha as a beautiful, stylish and classy woman. She celebrated her Ukrainian culture and loved passing her heritage on through her role as Baba to her grandbabies.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anizia (Korytko) Kopystianski. Left behind to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Mike; son, Todd Opacinch (Dr. Janet Leezer); daughter, Aimee Lucas (Charles Owens, Jr.); grandchildren, Jacob Lucas, Madeleine Opacinch, Elizabeth Lucas and Callista Lucas; brother, Orrie Kopystanski; sister-in-law, Anne McKinney; nephew, Daniel Kopystanski; niece, Katherine Kopystanski; former son-in-law, Mike Lucas; and a host of other family, friends and neighbors.
