HS Football: Albion Rallies to Beat FWB, Dunkirk Stays Unbeaten

Week 3 of the high school football season saw Fredonia-Westfield-Brocton get a chance to make amends after a tough loss last week at Olean. On Friday at Brocton's Memorial Field, the Badgers took a lead into the second half, but they could not hold on to that lead, as Albion rallied to defeat the Badgers by a score of 20-12, in a game broadcast on WDOE. FWB (1-2, 0-2) trailed 6-0 after one quarter. But Brendan Plaister scored on a 32-yard touchdown run to tie the game. Then a little more than three minutes later, Ka'Rim Levens ran back a punt 36 yards for a score to give the Badgers a 12-6 lead going into halftime. The game's turning point came with 4:53 remaining in the 3rd quarter, when quarterback Reid Tarnowski fumbled a snap. Albion (3-0, 3-0) recovered, and on the next play, the Purple Eagles capitalized with a 25-yard touchdown run by Ugene Harrison to tie the game at 12-12. Harrison was the big playmaker on the night for Albion, running the ball 16 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns. The next time the Purple Eagles got the ball, they drove 80 yards in 15 plays. Quarterback Bryce Pritchard capped the drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Nate Moore with 5:06 to play in the 4th quarter. A two-point conversion by Harrison made the score 20-12. FWB then drove down to the Albion 31-yard line, but the Badgers turned the ball over on downs with 59 seconds remaining. Brendan Plaister powered the Badgers' offense in the losing effort. After being held to just 24 yards rushing in last week's loss at Olean, the senior ran 27 times for 169 yards and a touchdown.

While FWB struggled to put points on the scoreboard Friday night, the same cannot be said of Dunkirk. The Marauders improved to 3-0 with a 49-6 blowout of East Aurora in their home opener at Karl Hoeppner Field. Senior quarterback Jazzy Rivera threw for 67 yards and two touchdowns -- both to Issiah Velez -- and also ran for 50 yards and another touchdown. Tywon Wright ran for a pair of scores for Dunkirk, while Quantavis Kleckley and Zeke Torres each added a TD in the win.
