With the state DMV offering more ways to do business online, county clerks across New York State are concerned about the future of local DMV offices. Wednesday's announcement by Governor Andrew Cuomo about online customers being able to print temporary licenses on their home computers rankles Chautauqua County Clerk Larry Barmore. He's concerned that the state keeps taking away funding sources for local DMV offices including the three in Chautauqua County.
Barmore-Concerned about future funding
Barmore tells WDOE News he would like to see the state give counties a share of the revenue for each transaction made. That would go a long way toward helping the local DMVs. Barmore says a measure that would raise the amount of each transaction handled in a DMV office from 12.7% to 25% has cleared the State Senate, but has stalled in the Assembly. The legislation would also require a new photo when driver's licenses are renewed.
