The village of Forestville has agreed to accept a helping hand from Chautauqua County Government. Now it will be up to county lawmakers to give their final approval to the deal to assist the village with a budget that could otherwise trigger a 445 percent tax hike. The proposal includes a bridge grant for $150,000 and reimbursement of $87,000 in tipping fees in exchange for 14 years of landfill credits. One of the conditions of the assistance is that the village must submit to an audit from the state comptroller's office that would include the village's fiscal records from the past five years. County legislators will decide on the proposal during their monthly meeting this evening. WDOE News will have coverage.
