SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble's Final Concert of Fall Semester iCal

Wednesday, November 15 2023 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Exciting works by SUNY Fredonia wind, brass and percussion musicians will be featured in the Fredonia Wind Ensemble's concluding concert of the fall semester in King Concert Hall on Wednesday, November 15th at 8:00 PM.

The program of unique music will open with Wagner's "Gathering of the Armies from Lohengrin," a brass arrangement by Jay Friedman, principal trombone of the Chicago Symphony. Devin Banning, a candidate for an M.M. in music performance at SUNY Fredonia, with a concentration in conducting, from Getzville, will direct "Rhosemedre" by Vaughan Williams, that is paired with Eric Whitacre's "Sleep."

Toch's "Spiel," which was inspired by Paul Hindemith, will conclude the first half of the concert.

The second half will feature "Child's Garden of Dreams," composed by David Maslanka and based on Carl Jung's "A Man and His Symbols," which includes dreams experienced by a little girl who passed at the age of 12. The vivid dreams foreshadowed her passing but also her poignant life.

The concert is free and open to students, faculty, staff and community members.

The Fredonia Wind Ensemble is under the direction of School of Music Professor Paula Holcomb.
