Fautina V. Solares, 96, of Dunkirk peacefully passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026. She was born to Ramon and Julia (Soto) Vargas on August 7, 1930 in Rincon, Puerto Rico.
In 1951, she married Efrain Solares-Rivera, and wanting a better life, they settled in Dunkirk. Fautina, a homemaker, raised her four children, Frank Solares of North Carolina, Pedro Solares of Dunkirk, Mary Solares-Rosario of Fredonia and Raymond Solares of Dunkirk. She was also blessed with eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, Godmother and friend, Fautina was a beautiful soul who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Fautina will be profoundly missed by all the lives she touched.
Besides her parents and siblings, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Efrain in 2009.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend calling hours on Thursday, September 10 from 2:00-4:00 PM at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, 736 Central Avenue in Dunkirk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 11 at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 328 Washington Avenue in Dunkirk. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery.
