Gloria E. Schmonsky, 97, formerly of 312 Oak Street in Lakewood, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at the Heritage Green Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Facility in Greenhurst. She was the widow of Theodore F. Schmonsky, whom she married on October 22, 1949 and who died on December 1, 2010.
Gloria was born in Jamestown on May 21, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy Dahlgren Swanson. She had worked as a telephone operator for the former Jamestown Telephone Company.
Confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Jamestown, she later belonged to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lakewood. Gloria enjoyed knitting and crocheting, shopping outings, trips with her family, and was a Buffalo Bills fan.
She will be remembered as a very loving, caring mother -- an angel to everyone.
Surviving are her son, Stephen Schmonsky of Fredonia and daughter, Joan (Marshall) Wells of Stow; and grandsons, John and Christopher Ferri, both of Jamestown. Along with her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Swanson; and daughter-in-law, Janet Schmonsky.
A private family service will be held, and burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
