Alice M. McCarthy

Alice M. McCarthy, 99, of Chestnut Street in Forestville died on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at her residence, with her family by her side. She was born in Buffalo on January 12, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Laughlin) Wouk.

Alice was a graduate of the former Kensington High School in Buffalo, Class of 1944 and worked part-time as a secretary for M&T Bank in Buffalo before moving to Forestville. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church in Forestville and previously a choir member at St. James Parish in Buffalo. Alice loved the opera, theater, classical music, playing the piano, cooking and baking, gardening and ceramics. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include four daughters, Nadine McCarthy of Forestville, Eileen (Bernard) Feldmann of Silver Creek, Nancy McCarthy of Silver Creek and Nora (Scott) Gilman of Forestville; four sons, Michael (Lydia) McCarthy of Lockport, Sean McCarthy of Derby, Colin (Francine) McCarthy of Williamsville, and Brian (Nadine) McCarthy of Tonawanda; daughter-in-law, Yvonne McCarthy of Silver Creek; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her "adopted son," Charlie (Debbie) Burgio of West Seneca. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald S. "Bud" McCarthy, whom she married on July 1, 1950 in St. James Parish in Buffalo and who died on November 5, 2008; a son, Kevin McCarthy; infant brother, William Wouk; brother, Joseph Wouk, who died on May 13, 2005; and two granddaughters, Lauren and Theresa Gilman.

Friends are welcome to call on Tuesday, May 13 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street in Forestville, where prayer services will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM from Faith Community Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Avenue in Silver Creek, with Rev. Daniel Fiebelkorn officiating. Interment will follow in Forestville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Forestville Fire Department, Inc., PO Box 299, Forestville, NY 14062.
