Selma Northrop Wood, 86, of Fredonia, formerly of Mayville, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk. She was born on June 30, 1937 in Mayville, the daughter of the late Clifford G. and Ethel Hall Northrop.
Selma was a 1955 graduate of Mayville Central School. She had worked as a typist for Chautauqua Abstract in Mayville and was an auxiliary member of the Lake Chautauqua VFW Post 8647. She enjoyed reading romance and Amish novels, camping, snowmobiling and quilting, especially baby quilts. Most of all, she enjoyed time with her family.
She is survived by her three daughters, Joette (Randy) Henderson of Mayville, Arlene Ann (Luis) Morales of Edgewater, FL and Bonnie Webster of King, NC; five grandchildren, Kristin (Sam) Edla, Paul Floccari, Courtney Webster, Ashley (David) Rice and Dylan Webster; and five great-grandchildren, Silas and Winston Edla, Sophia Grace Floccari, Alec Mitchell and Andrew Rice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Harland Wood, whom she married on July 2, 1955; and a son-in-law, Mark Webster.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 12:00 PM at the Freay Funeral Home, 139 South Erie Street in Mayville. The Rev. Carmen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery. The family will receive friends for two hours before the service at the funeral home.
