John J. Sullivan

John J. Sullivan, 85, of Fredonia died on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Absolut Care of Westfield. He was born on January 18, 1937 in Dunkirk to Thomas C. and Esther (Nash) Sullivan.

John graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School in 1957. On August 25, 1962, he married Frances A. Domst at St. Hyacinth Church in Dunkirk.

John was a member of the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department and M.M. Fenner Hose Company #2 for over 55 years. He served as Secretary and Treasurer for over 30 years for the Fredonia Exempt Firemen's Association. He was also a bugler in Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. Working for the United States Postal Service, John worked in the Fredonia Post Office as a clerk and then supervisor. He retired from the Silver Creek Post Office as Postmaster in October 1992. He belonged to NARFE (National Active Retired Federal Employees Association), UPMA (United Postmasters and Managers of America, Retired) and St. Joseph Church in Fredonia.

John is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Alexandria Sullivan of Fredericksburg, VA, Robert (Candace) Sullivan of Easton, PA and Karen (Richard) DeSantis of East Aurora; grandchildren, Megan Sullivan of Poughkeepsie, Brian Sullivan (Bethany Powhida) of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael DeSantis of Hamburg and Grace (Zach) Wilcox of Buffalo; and nephews, Michael (Valerie Kneitinger) Sullivan, Timothy (Brenda) Sullivan, Thomas (Cheryl) Sullivan, Lori (Phil) Pajak and Daniel (Deborah) Sullivan. Besides his parents, John is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Sullivan (late Claudia Sell Sullivan); and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Domst of Depew.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 1 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue in Fredonia, where a Firemen's Service will be held at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Church, 145 East Main Street in Fredonia on Tuesday, April 2 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in John's name may be made to the Fredonia Fire Department, 80 West Main Street, Fredonia, NY 14063; or a charity of choice.
