Robert S. Barnes, 86, formerly of Fredonia, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown. He was born on July 23, 1936 to Wilber and Arlene Barnes in South Dayton.
Robert graduated from Pine Valley High School and served the U.S. Army in Korea from 1955-1957 as a Specialist Third Class. Robert married Beverly A. Butler of Forestville on September 24, 1960 at the Methodist Church of South Dayton. He was a pressman at Great Lakes Color Printing in Dunkirk until the plant closed in the 1980s. He then became an auctioneer. Robert was a member of the Laona Emmanuel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed antique collecting, depression glass, Civil War history, and was an avid reader.
Robert is survived by his wife, Beverly A. Barnes; and three children, Jeffrey R. (Susan) Barnes of Jamestown, Susan L. (Kirk) Hutchinson of Fredonia and Brenda A. Crause (Doug Nelson) of Maryville, IL. Robert was known as "Pops" by his 14 grandchildren and "G-Pops" by his 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Glenn E. Barnes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15 from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue in Fredonia, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, with Mr. Barnes' son, Jeffrey R. Barnes, celebrant.
