Wendy L. Black

Wendy L. Black, 59, of Dunkirk died Saturday afternoon, December 5, 2020 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, following a brief illness. She was born on January 2, 1961 in Westfield, the daughter of the late Charles P. and Lucille M. (Emery) Black.

A lifelong resident of the area, Wendy was a graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School with the Class of 1979. She had been employed as a developmental assistant with OPWDD and was a member of Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church in Fredonia.

Wendy enjoyed doing crafts and decorating, especially for Christmas. She loved swimming and going to the lake with her dogs and spending time with her family and friends. From a young age, she volunteered in numerous church activities as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher, and as a Bible study leader. She also volunteered for Compeer and for Child Advocacy.

Survivors include one sister, Kathy L. Black of Lackawanna; and one brother, Paul D. Black of Westfield.

Following the guidelines and protocols administered by the Governor of New York, family and friends may call on Wednesday, December 9 from 4-6 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Following the calling hours, a memorial service will be held one hour later at 7 p.m. in Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church, 39 Matteson Street in Fredonia. The Rev. Jim LaBarr will officiate.
