Richard E. Centner

Richard E. Centner, 77, of Hamburg, formerly of Dunkirk, died Friday morning (Feb. 6, 2015) at the Hospice and Patient Unit, Mitchell Campus, in Cheektowaga.

He was born Dec. 31, 1937 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Richard and Ruby (Harris) Centner.

Mr. Centner was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Military Police from 1961 to 1963.

He was the vice president of Sennebogen LLC, commercial heavy duty machinery in Charlotte, NC.

Mr. Centner was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Hamburg. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed retirement work at Tops Market in Hamburg.

Survivors include his former wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Vacanti of Fredonia; two sons, Billy (Carole) Centner and Rick Centner, both of Fredonia; two daughters, Cathy Burgess of Westfield and Jennifer Centner of Fredonia; three grandchildren, Robbie, Ashley and Alysia Burgess; one stepgranddaughter, Kaitlan St. George; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Nickerson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated Monday, February 9 at 11:00 AM in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. There will be no calling hours. Memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo Inc., 225 Como Park Boulevard, Cheektowaga, NY 14227. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
