It's been a fairly safe Fourth of July holiday weekend on area waterways, but a representative of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is reminding boaters to play it safe by practicing safe boating. Doug Hamernik says it's a good idea to wear a life jacket anytime you take to the water.

Hamernik is also reminding boaters to avoid drinking while boating. He says even boat passengers should stay away from the alcohol.
