Elections officials complete absentee count in close contests

Chautauqua County Elections Commissioners Luz Torres and Brian Abram announced Monday afternoon that absentees and provisional affidavit ballots for the close races from Election Day were counted.

County Legislative District 1 had Election Night results that had Kevin Muldowney with an additional 92 votes over challenger Marcus Buchanan. With absentee/affidavit gains of 41 votes and 79 votes, respectively, results are now 678-624.

The Dunkirk City Council at Large contest ended with David Damico posting 1185 to Nick Weiser's 1113, gains of 79 and 106 over each candidate's 99 difference on November 2.

In the 2nd Ward of Dunkirk, the Election Night results flipped in favor of incumbent Martin Bamonto, who had 1,149 votes to Linda Stolinski's 1126 votes. This after gains of 111 and 70, respectively.

Jamestown's 3rd Ward will see Regina Brackman continue with a lead of two votes of Robert Reedy II. Brackman ends 173 to 171 against Reedy, narrowing an Election Night 159-148 lead.

In Fredonia, both the trustee and trustee vacancies saw minimal changes. Michelle Twichell led William Weatherlow in the trustee race on Election Night, 773-721. Nicole Siracuse had secured the top stop already with 1,047 votes. Twichell added 67 votes, and Weatherlow added 37 votes for a final of 841-758. Siracuse added 54 votes to reach a total of 1,102. In the vacancy trustee race, Jon Espersen claimed Election Night victory with 1,019 and left David Bird (862) and Gregory Krauza (815) fighting for second place. Krauza adds 60 votes, but is not enough to overcome 57 additional votes for David Bird. The final was 921-876.

And in the Highway Supervisor race in the Town of Carroll. Michael Walker led James Mitchener III 502-482 on Election Night, just a 20-vote spread. A gain of 19 for Walker and 12 for Mitchener leaves the Election Night results father apart, 521-494.

The results are unofficial pending final certification. The Board of Elections will continue adding other absentee and provisional affidavit ballots for races with wider margins to the totals to complete their final certification, expected later this week.
