Pushed by a surge in attendance and investment by the state, the New York State Fair has risen into the top ten rankings among major fairs tracked by the industry publication Carnival Warehouse. The fair's 2018 attendance of 1,279,000, an all-time record for the nation's oldest state fair, pushed it to 9th place. A regional fair just missed the top ten list. The Erie County Fair in Hamburg had 1,198,000, good for 13th place. The fair in Hamburg also was named the 4th largest county fair in the U.S.
