A Jamestown woman was taken into custody after she allegedly used a child as a shield in an attempt to avoid arrest. Jamestown Police say this followed a physical altercation in the backyard of a residence on the city's east side early Tuesday. Officers responded to the scene shortly after 4:15 AM for a report of a disorderly person and saw 23-year-old Desiree Barr actively engaged in the altercation. According to police, Barr then retreated into the residence and picked up a child to shield herself from officers. She allegedly resisted for a brief period before being taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. Barr was held pending arraignment on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, 2nd-degree obstruction, and resisting arrest.
