Democrats are turning to a familiar face to serve out the rest of Vince DeJoy's term on the County Legislature if he wins his election. The Chautauqua County Democratic Committee, working with the Jamestown Democratic Committee, has asked Charles Nazzaro to commit to serving through at least 2027, when a special election will be held. The announcement comes after DeJoy's decision to leave the legislature, as well as his position as City of Dunkirk Planning and Development Director, for a new job in North Carolina. Nazzaro was first elected to the County Legislature in 2008 and served for 14 years. He was previously a Jamestown City Council member before his election to the legislature. Nazzaro chaired the legislature's Audit and Control Committee when either the Democrats or the Republicans controlled the body. DeJoy's name will remain on the ballot for the Jamestown-based Legislature District 9.
