Bills Nip Rams in Monday Night Thriller

A Monday night clash on the West Coast between the high-powered Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams was relatively low scoring for three quarters before turning into a virtual track meet. The two teams needed more than four quarters to settle the score, and in the end, the Bills overcame a critical overtime miscue to edge the Rams 37-34 at SoFi Stadium.

The Bills (4-1) led 19-14 after three quarters before both teams combined for 35 points in a back-and-forth 4th quarter. With 1:39 left in regulation, James Cook scored on a 5-yard touchdown run to give Buffalo a 34-27 advantage before the Rams (2-3) answered with an eight-play drive, tying the game on a Kyren Williams touchdown run with :05 on the clock. In overtime, the Bills got the ball first and set themselves up for points when a 57-yard reception by Khalil Shakir moved the ball to the Los Angeles 22-yard line. However, Cook fumbled on the next play, and the Rams recovered the loose ball. They drove down to the Buffalo 30, setting up a potential game-winning field goal attempt. But Greg Rousseau got his hand on Harrison Mevis' 48-yard effort, causing the kick to fall just short and keeping the Bills' chances alive. That's when quarterback Josh Allen took over, with runs of 19 and 13 yards putting his team in field goal range. Tyler Bass ended the game two plays later with a successful 45-yard kick with 1:55 remaining in the extra period, sending the Bills home with their first overtime win since 2017.

Buffalo racked up 234 rushing yards in the win, led by Josh Allen's 121 yards on 10 carries. Through the air, he went 12-for-19 for 210 yards, a touchdown and an interception. James Cook ran 25 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the win, but also fumbled twice. Rams receiver Puka Nacua caught 17 balls for 138 yards and a touchdown, and Matthew Stafford went 40-for-54 for 383 yards and three scores. Both teams combined for 890 total yards of offense.

The Bills will stay on the West Coast as they face the Las Vegas Raiders in a 4:25 PM kickoff on Sunday.
