The Chautauqua County Humane Society (CCHS) has temporarily paused all intake of dogs and cats at its shelter due to a lack of space. This after it recently took in 33 cats from a single home. According to CCHS, the situation is not related to cruelty or neglect, but it has placed a sudden and significant strain on its space and resources. CCHS adds that some of those cats have tested positive for ringworm, which requires which requires careful isolation, treatment, and additional sanitation protocols. At the same time, it is caring for cats battling pan-leukopenia, and a group of puppies who arrived with parvo, all serious medical situations that demand time, attention, and safe separation. CCHS also announced that it may need to pause spay/neuter services until it can stabilize the situation and safely reopen those areas of the shelter.
