The first of two new playgrounds at the Wheelock School in Fredonia is now officially open. The Fredonia Central School District says students explored the new Chestnut Street playground for the first time on Wednesday. The district says the playground -- which contains a rubberized play surface, more accessible equipment, and spaces for both imaginative and active play -- it's "already a hit" with students and staff. Meanwhile, work is continuing on the second playground on West Main Street. A grand opening for both playgrounds will be held at a later date.
