More details have been provided from a vehicle crash that occurred last Friday in which a Sports Utility Vehicle crashed into an apartment building in the Town of Busti. Lakewood-Busti Police say the driver of the SUV reported losing their breaks as they were northbound on Route 474 near the intersection with Route 394 around 1:30 PM. Chief Matthew Bentley says the vehicle crossed 394 at a high rate of speed, and went into the building just south of Smith Boy's Marina. Bentley says the driver was taken to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital for treatment, while a passenger was flown to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania. Their conditions and names are not available at this time. Bentley says no one inside the building was hurt. Charges are currently pending. Lakewood-Busti Police were joined at the scene by Lakewood fire rescue, Chautauqua County Sheriff's officers, and the Chautauqua County Tactical Rescue Team.
