The rising popularity of mobile sports betting has led that to become New York's second-largest source of gaming revenue, according to a report released by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. The report shows that in the state's 2025-2026 fiscal year, mobile sports betting generated $1.3 billion in state revenues from taxes on gross gaming revenues. with only the lottery generating more gaming revenue. However, the reports also notes that increased wagering activity has led to an 8.5% increase in calls to the state's problem gambling hotline in 2025 since 2020. According to the state's Gaming Commission and OASAS, there were 2,545 calls to the state's HOPEline, up 8.5% from 2020. DiNapoli says while he was encouraged to see the state double funding for problem gambling services from $6 million to $12 million, he believes more needs to be done to identify how mobile sports betting is impacting New Yorkers and ensure that consumers are protected.
