Superintendent Notes Plenty of Positive Energy to Start Dunkirk's School Year

Children in the Dunkirk City School District are back in the classroom, and there have been plenty of positive vibes from the new and returning students at the beginning of the new school year. Superintendent Brian Swatland, who was a guest on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program on Wednesday, says the district decided to start its new year before the Labor Day holiday period because it allows for additional days off in the middle of a "condensed" calendar year...

Swatland says there was a little concern about turnout on opening day last Thursday, but he says there was 83% attendance by students and families. He adds that there has been a lot of positive feedback around what has been happening in the buildings...

Brian Swatland: visited all of the buildings

Staff members Helena Rankin and Kyle Jarrell contributed to that positivity on opening day by providing a "bubbly welcome" for students as the entered the Middle & High School.
