A Brocton-area woman was taken into custody following an altercation at an address in the Town of Portland on Sunday. Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence at 8265 County Route 380 at about 6:00 PM and determined that 43-year-old Jessica Betts had allegedly struck and caused physical harm to another person, as well as obstructed the victim's breathing, in the presence of a child. Betts was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment and will appear in Portland Town Court to answer charges of 2nd-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, and endangering the welfare of a child.
