Organizations Assisting St. Susan Center in Wake of Vandalized Freezer

A number of area organizations have stepped up to help St. Susan Center following the recent vandalizing of its 28-foot square freezer. Executive Director Cherie Rowland, who gave an update during the Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County's August recovery luncheon, says they include Jamestown Ice and Storage; Lindsey Refrigeration in North East, Pennsylvania; and several local food pantries. Collectively, they have been storing 6,766 pounds of food. Much of that is recovered from partnerships with local farmers and retailers, including Wegmans, Tops, Panera Bread, Ecklof Bakery, Target, and Wal-Mart. Rowland adds that St. Susan's is working on grants from Cummins, the New York State DEC, and Empire State Development to replace the freezer that was vandalized on August 16th.
