New York State Police Troop T issued 966 violations during a recent campaign to reduce bridge and overpass strikes involving commercial vehicles on the Thruway. Troopers say the Troop T Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit conducted 348 commercial vehicle inspections during the "Check Your Height, Know It's Right" initiative at the end of July. Of those, 126 vehicles were immediately taken out of service for safety-related violations. Five violations were issued for over-height vehicles, and 189 uniform traffic tickets were issued for speeding, lack of seatbelt/restraints, cell phone use, registration and license issues, and other violations. The maximum legal vehicle height on the Thruway is 13'6". If a vehicle is taller, a permit is required.
