Dunkirk Professional Firefighters Local 616 has presented a graduate of Dunkirk High School a $1,000 scholarship. On Saturday, the local union announced Giada Kirell as the recipient of its annual Daniel F. Anson Memorial Scholarship. The announcement was made on the 47th anniversary of the line-of-duty death of the scholarship's namesake. The Anson Scholarship is awarded annually to a Dunkirk High School senior who goes on to further their education in college. Kirell, who was the valedictorian of the Class of 2026, was also very active in serving the community.
