A former member of the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office has been honored by his alma mater, 40 years after graduating from there. Retired Captain Randy Boland is one of three people recently named for induction into the Sherman Central School Wall of Fame. Boland graduated from Sherman in 1986 and continued his education at Jamestown Community College, earning an Associate's degree in criminal justice. In 1991, he began his career with the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, which lasted 32 years until his retirement in 2023. Throughout his career, Boland held numerous positions of increasing responsibility, including deputy sheriff, DWI patrol officer, SWAT team leader, navigation, criminal investigator, Sergeant of Investigations, Lieutenant of Investigators, and retired at the rank of Captain. His dedication to public service, leadership, and commitment to community safety earned him the respect of both colleagues and citizens. While living in Sherman, he served four years on the Sherman Central School Board and was a member of the Stanley Hose Fire Company.
