The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) has issued an energy watch for Thursday due to a decline in operating reserves. According to NYISO, the state's grid is operating normally at this time, and there are adequate resources to meet forecasted demand. Meanwhile, Governor Kathy Hochul says her team has been coordinating with Con-Ed, NYISO and New York City leaders to ensure that all large consumers able to switch to other fuel sources have done so to reduce their usage. She is also calling on New Yorkers to proactively conserve electricity if safe to do so by setting air conditioning units between 75 and 78 degrees and avoiding unnecessary appliance use.
