Jamestown Public Schools was recently presented a "Champions of Change" award from the New York State School Boards Association. The award was in recognition of a program called "Lights on Afterschool," which celebrated the importance of safe, engaging spaces for students beyond the school day as part of a nationwide celebration in October. Organized by the Afterschool Alliance, Lights on Afterschool looks to spotlight the importance of these programs, which aim to keep kids safe, help working families, and inspire learning. JPS Board of Education member and NYSSBA President Christine Schnars presented the recognition to Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and School Improvement Tina Sandstrom and JPS 21st Century Program Heather Meyer during the district's June 2nd board meeting.
