Historical Re-Enactment to Highlight Bicentennial Celebration of Lafayette's Visit to Fredonia

This week marks the 200th anniversary of a French military general's visit to Chautauqua County, and the Village of Fredonia has been involved in celebrations marking his visit. The Darwin R. Barker Museum has been heading up the Lafayette Bicentennial Jubilee, which will be celebrated through the end of the week. Museum Curator Max Walters says the Marquis de Lafayette was a prominent historical figure who was the last surviving Major General of the Revolutionary War when he visited the United States in 1824 and 1825...

Lafayette visited Fredonia on June 3-4, 1825. Walters, who was a guest on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program on Monday, says there will be a historical re-enactment of Lafayette's visit to Fredonia on Tuesday, plus a festival in Barker Common. He says Mike Lee will play the role of Lafayette, who will ride in a horse-drawn carriage...

The horse-drawn carriage ride will get underway at about 6:00 PM. There will be also be live music. The jubilee will conclude with a lecture by Paul Scheeler on Thursday at the museum.
