
Prices at the gas pump remained largely unchanged over the past week. According to AAA, Monday's national average is $3.17 per gallon, which is up by nearly two cents from a week ago. New York State saw its average price increase by a fraction of a cent to $3.10. And Chautauqua County's average ticked down by a fraction of a penny to $3.32. One year ago, the national and statewide averages were $3.65 and $3.73, respectively.
AAA adds that while this time of year typically sees seasonal increases and rising demand in gasoline, the price of crude oil has been plunging due to economic concerns and the decision by OPEC+ (the group of oil-producing countries) to increase output and add more oil to the market, despite tepid demand. As of Monday morning, crude oil prices ranged from $56-60 per barrel.
AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following regional averages:
- Batavia - $3.14 (no change from last Monday)
- Buffalo - $3.05 (down one cent from last Monday)
- Elmira - $2.95 (no change from last Monday)
- Ithaca - $2.99 (no change from last Monday)
- Rochester - $3.10 (no change from last Monday)
- Rome - $3.23 (no change from last Monday)
- Syracuse - $3.07 (up one cent from last Monday)
- Watertown - $3.12 (up four cents from last Monday)
