Jamestown Community College's Laura Parmenter was recently honored with the Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching and Technology Excellence in Instructional Support award for community colleges by the State University of New York. Parmenter is JCC's Director of Online Learning and interim Director of the Learning Commons, which provides students with access to library services, tutoring help, and accessibility support.
The Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching and Technology (FACT2) annually gives out one award each for Excellence in Instruction, Excellence in Instructional Support, and Excellence in Administrative Leadership. Recipients are SUNY instructional faculty, technology support professionals, and administrative leaders at community colleges and state-operated and statutory campuses. These awards underscore SUNY's commitment to the use of technology to support instruction, research, and service.
Parmenter joined JCC as an adjunct instructor teaching anatomy and physiology and chemistry courses in 2016. Under the leadership and guidance of Parmenter, who received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching in 2020, JCC broadened its online science offerings.
Parmenter joined the full-time faculty as an assistant professor of biology and chemistry in 2021 and a year later moved to director of Online Learning. In that role, Parmenter was one of 34 fellows consisting of faculty and staff across SUNY selected to participate in the inaugural New York State Community College Leadership Academy in Albany in 2024.
FACT2 award recipients will be honored May 20-23 at the annual Conference on Instruction and Technology at SUNY Oneonta.
