Last month, State Senator George Borrello announced that he would introduce legislation to establish a financial control board for the City of Dunkirk in an effort to help the city get through its fiscal crisis. That bill is now officially in committee. Borrello, who was a call-in guest on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program on Tuesday, says he introduced the measure late last week, and it has a 45-day waiting period to get onto an agenda...

According to the text of the legislation, the control board would consist of nine members, including six Chautauqua County residents. Four of the members would be appointed directly by Governor Kathy Hochul. Meanwhile, WDOE News on Wednesday got some feedback from Dunkirk Mayor Kate Wdowiasz. She says there are several issues she is still concerned about, including the part where it states that control board members would be reimbursed for "actual expenses"...

Wdowiasz tells us that she cannot support the legislation, saying that it would be very harmful to city employees and residents, and that she cannot see how Borrello "could justify a tax increase to pay for a control board with an unknown cost with unknown powers."
