Chautauqua County saw its unemployment rate go down in March after four consecutive monthly increases. According to preliminary statistics released by the New York State Department of Labor on Tuesday, the county's jobless rate was 4.7% for the month, which is down by seven-tenths of a percent from February. However, that number remains higher than the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.2%. Additional data shows that the county had approximately 400 fewer people employed compared to March 2024 and slightly fewer people listed as unemployed during that same period. One year ago, the county's unemployment rate was also 4.7%.
