Pinwheel for Prevention Campaign Kicks Off Child Abuse Prevention Month in County

April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time when communities come together to raise awareness and take action in the fight against child abuse and neglect. Last year, Chautauqua County received more than 2,100 reports of child abuse, according to the New York State Central Registry, and about one-fourth of those cases have been substantiated by the county's Department of Social Services. Four municipalities across Chautauqua County will hold pinwheel planting ceremonies in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month. The first one is scheduled for 10:30 AM today at Eason Hall in Westfield. Pinwheel gardens will also be planted on Wednesday at Jamestown City Hall; next Monday, April 7th at the Chautauqua Municipal Building in Mayville; and Thursday, April 10th at Dunkirk City Hall. County residents are encouraged to wear blue at these planting ceremonies in solidarity with child abuse prevention efforts.
