The City of Dunkirk will receive a state grant for a tree planting project. On Friday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the city has been awarded a $66,500 Urban and Community Forestry grant, which is administered through the New York State DEC. It's one of 32 projects statewide to receive funds through this round of grants, which complement the DEC's ongoing initiatives to address invasive species, climate change, environmental degradation, environmental justice, and urban sprawl. The grants build upon Hochul's 2024 State of the State commitment to plant 25 million trees by 2033.
