Village of Fredonia to Present Budget Proposal with 13% Tax Rate Increase

It's quite a big difference compared to two weeks ago, but the Village of Fredonia's proposed budget for its next fiscal year still calls for a significant tax hike. Mayor Mike Ferguson says officials will present a 2024-2025 spending plan totaling just under $11.9 million. Ferguson says the proposal will call for a property tax rate of $42.65 per $1,000 assessed value, which is an increase of 13%. He says the proposed hike is the result of the depletion of the village's reserve funds and a lack of raising taxes in past years...

Meanwhile, the budget will feature water and sewer rates of $7.00 per 1,000 gallons, which Ferguson says is reflected in the village's rate increase that was approved in March. A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held Monday evening at 6:30 PM at Village Hall.
