A Mayville man was taken into custody after five long guns were seized from an address in the Town of Sherman. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office says a parole check last Thursday found that 20-year-old Marcus Detweiler allegedly possessed a shotgun and four rifles. Investigators obtained a search warrant for a property at 3969 Route 76, and a search led to the seizure of the guns, all of which are believed to be stolen. Detweiler was charged with five counts of 4th-degree criminal possession of a weapon and was taken to the Sheriff's Office in Mayville for centralized arraignment.
Meanwhile, the Sheriff's Office is asking for anyone who believes one of the following guns may be theirs or someone they know to contact the office either through the narcotics tip line or direct to the Sheriff's Office. The guns in question are a Winchester model 9422M XTR .22 Magnum rifle, a Savage Axis 308, a Winchester .22 caliber Model 190 rifle, a 12-gauge Eclipse Leader double barrel shotgun, and an Ithaca M-49 .22 caliber rifle.
The same address on Route 76 was searched in late February, with Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office narcotics investigators locating a quantity of meth, scales and packaging material and eight guns in that search.
