An inmate at the Chautauqua County Jail who escaped during a work detail late Monday morning has been taken back into custody. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office reports that the inmate, whose name has not been released at this time, escaped at about 11:45 AM. State Police, Jamestown Police, Lakewood-Busti Police and Gerry Fire joined the Sheriff's Office in responding to an area in the Town of Ellery where the escape occurred. Deputies say through coordinated efforts, the inmate was quickly located. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, which is still under investigation. Investigators say charges are pending. More details will be provided at a later time.
