The temperatures may be on the rise, but gas prices are not. That's the word from AAA, which reports that the national average price at the pump is $3.14 per gallon. That's nearly three cents lower compared to last Monday. New York's average ticked down by a fraction of a cent to $3.09, and the average for Chautauqua County decreased by more than a penny and is now $3.31. One year ago, the national and statewide averages were $3.62 and $3.72, respectively.
According to AAA, last week's announcement by OPEC+ that it will increase output again in June could cause crude oil prices to continue to fall. That means travelers would see lower prices at the pump in the summer. As of Monday morning, crude oil prices are $62-66 per barrel.
AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following regional averages:
- Batavia - $3.13 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
- Buffalo - $3.06 (up 1 cent from last Monday)
- Elmira - $2.93 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
- Ithaca - $2.98 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
- Rochester - $3.10 (no change from last Monday)
- Rome - $3.23 (no change from last Monday)
- Syracuse - $3.06 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
- Watertown - $3.14 (up 2 cents from last Monday)
