The Chautauqua County Health Department released its weekly report on COVID-19 on Wednesday with 288 new cases of the virus reported in the county during the week of October 17-23. That's a 23.1% increase in new cases for the county, compared to the previous week. The county has also had six new virus-related deaths, bringing its pandemic death toll to 206. The latest victims include one person in their 50s, two people in their 60s, two people in their 70s, and one person in their 80s. Meanwhile, health officials reported 21 hospitalizations in the county, down from 25 the previous week. As of Tuesday, the county's seven-day average infection rate was 6.2%.
Also, two duplicate case entries from the week of October 10-16 have been removed from the county's total case number, which is now 13,129 since the beginning of the pandemic.
