KeyBank Foundation Donates $50,000 to Star Hospice House

Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care this week announced a $50,000 contribution from KeyBank, in partnership with the First Niagara Foundation, to its Our House Campaign towards its Star Hospice House. The hospice residence, which will be located adjacent to the CHPC administrative offices on West Fairmount Avenue in Lakewood, is expected to be operational later this year. Each year, it will provide over 200 individuals who lack a caregiver, have complex medical conditions, or can't remain at home with a peaceful, dignified resting place in their final days. Elizabeth Gurney, Executive Director of the KeyBank and First Niagara foundations, says, "We at KeyBank are committed to supporting programs and organizations that are making a difference in Western New York. The Star Hospice House will have a significant impact on the Chautauqua region by helping to improve care for those with terminal illnesses and experiencing the process of grief. The compassionate care offered by Hospice fills a critical need for patients with serious illnesses by providing the guidance, dignity and emotional support those patients and their families need." The hospice residence will be named in honor of the generosity of Stanley and Elizabeth Star, longtime residents of Chautauqua County. The Our House Campaign has raised $2.3 million. Due to pandemic-related cost increases associated with the construction, the campaign is being extended through the summer.
