A bridge near downtown Jamestown that has been under construction for the last six months is now expected to be reopened by next weekend. The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities has announced that the replacement of the Harrison Street bridge over the Chadakoin River is now completed, and the bridge is now slated to open by Saturday, January 4th. According to the DPF, a 16-inch water main pipe that crosses the river under the bridge deck was replaced and needed to be tested prior to restoration. Additional time was required due to an unknown valve leak on an 8-inch connected water line. Testing of the new 16-inch water line is now complete, and it has passed all requirements. The contractor will be constructing the roadway surfaces over the next week so that the bridge can be opened. Temporary bridge walls and sidewalks will be installed until permanent bridge walls, sidewalks and final paving surfaces can be completed in early spring.
