The Diocese of Buffalo has released its list of final decisions regarding church and parish closings and mergers across Western New York. In a press release issued on Tuesday, the diocese announced that 118 out of its 196 worship sites will remain open after the closing/merger process. Firefighters are at the scene of a house fire in Sunset Bay. Chautauqua County dispatchers confirmed that crews from Sunset Bay and Silver Creek were called to a residence at 12839 Pleasant Avenue shortly before 5:15 AM Wednesday. Silver Creek firefighters made quick work of a shed fire in the village Tuesday evening. Crews were called to a location on Division Street shortly after 6:45 PM and saw heavy fire to an outdoor storage shed behind the residence. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer made a stop in Buffalo on Monday to announce the next phase in a plan to lower out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for New York seniors on Medicare.
