Saturday Sports Update

Top: The weather cooperated and the grounds were playable on Friday, which meant there was plenty of high school baseball and softball action across the area at the end of a week full of inclement weather.  In Dunkirk, Peyton Ahlstrom (left) tagged out Chautauqua Lake's Devin Pope on the basepath, but Pope had the last laugh; he scored the game's only run and got the win in relief as the Thunderbirds edged the Marauders 1-0 in nine innings.  Meanwhile, Maddy Marsh (right) and the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies improved to 3-0 on the softball diamond, defeating Southwestern 11-5.  Photos by Ron Szot and the Post-Journal

Bottom left: Bojan Bogdanovic celebrates after knocking down a three-pointer for the Indiana Pacers late in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference playoff series with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.  Bogdanovic scored 30 points, and the Pacers erased a 17-point halftime deficit to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 92-90 to grab a 2-1 lead in the series.  Photo by USA Today

Bottom right: The Winnipeg Jets are on to the next round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Friday, the Jets showed no mercy and blew out the Minnesota Wild 5-0 to win that series 4-1.  The Jets will face either the Nashville Predators or Colorado Avalanche; the Predators currently lead that series 3-2.  Photo by NHL.com
