Saturday Sports Update

Top left: Eric Wood was one of the longest tenured members of the Buffalo Bills during the 2017 season. But now he will no longer be in a Bills uniform. On Friday, Wood announced his retirement after an end-of-season physical revealed a neck injury that would not allow doctors to clear him to play football again. The center played in nine NFL seasons with the Bills and was drafted in the 1st round out of Louisville in 2009.  Photo by buffalobills.com

Top center: Tyrese Kristian-Johnson puts up a shot over Trey Swartz during the first half of Friday night's rivalry game between Dunkirk and Fredonia. TKJ (as I like to call him) had a game-high 17 points and was also a beast on the glass, pulling down 11 rebounds (eight offensive) and blocking three shots. Most importantly, he made the go-ahead free throws with 19.6 seconds left in the Marauders' 57-53 victory.  Photo by the Observer

Top right: New Orleans Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins gets helped off the floor during a game Friday night against the Houston Rockets. Cousins tore his Achilles tendon late in the 4th quarter and will miss the rest of the season.  Cousins, who was acquired by the Pelicans in a trade last season with the Sacramento Kings, averaged 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game this season.  Photo by USA Today

The announcement comes amid a controversy surrounding the school's handling of sex abuse allegations against its disgraced former sports doctor, Larry Nassar.  Photo by MLive.com

Bottom right: Caroline Wozniacki was dubbed one of two best tennis players in the world to never win a Grand Slam title.  She can now shed that label.  This morning, the Dane defeated Simona Halep 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4 in the Australian Open women's final. Wozniacki also becomes the top ranked women's tennis player in the world.  Photo by Sky Sports
